“Who lives in a pineapple and under the sea, Sponge Bob Squarepants”, our fruit for the month is considered as the king of fruits, Pineapple, a medley of flowers fused together that bears fruit. It’s also considered as an exotic fruit with it’s ornamental head termed a crown, it must be ideally twisted off before cutting the skin off and diced.
Place of origin
There are many varieties of this fruit, the most popular now being the MD2/Golden Sweet. This variety was developed in Costa Rica. It’s longer shelf life quality allows its transport via sea to Europe as compared to its counterparts Smooth Cayenne and Sugar loaf. In Ghana currently most pineapple exports are MD2. The majority of these fruits are sent to UK, Europe and Eurasia.
